Light It Up Blue on April 1 and 2


Show your support for individuals with autism by raising awareness for the disorder.

Raise awareness by:

*Wearing blue on April 1st and 2nd

*Lighting up the outside of your home with blue lights

*Feature the Light It Up Blue logo on your Facebook profile

*Write a blog post about the event

*Throw a dinner party and special screening of HBOs "Temple Grandin," "Adam," or episodes of Ingenius Minds and/or Parenthood.

*Change your Facebook status to read:
"I know someone who struggles with autism every day. April 2nd has been declared Autism Awareness Day by the United Nations. I'm doing my part by _______________. How are you doing yours?"

*Write a note, and then tag your friends, on Facebook that includes the following facts:

Did you know ...
Autism now affects 1 in 110 children and 1 in 70 boys
Autism prevalence figures are growing
More children will be diagnosed with autism this year than with AIDS, diabetes & cancer combined
Autism is the fastest-growing serious developmental disability in the U.S.
Autism costs the nation over $35 billion per year, a figure expected to significantly increase in the next decade
Autism receives less than 5% of the research funding of many less prevalent childhood diseases
Boys are four times more likely than girls to have autism
There is no medical detection or cure for autism

    Just a little message to thank you for such an inspiring piece of work.
    Trauma is a very strange thing and far too many times it is considered to be untreatable or incureable.
    I came across your blog whilst looking for people with similar interests and it was a very well put together piece of work.
    As you will see from my blog I am a trauma life coach working with the spiritual aspect of trauma and mental health as opposed to just the physical. For this reason I work from a spiritual but non religious perspective using non medical methods. Having experienced my own trauma I am aware of how little is understood and actually how PTSD is often viewed as a mental illness when evidence shows it is not.
